The suspect, identified as 47-year-old Aaron Matthew Shindle, was spotted by an officer at around 3:25 a.m. at Stonecreek South and West Yale Loop, authorities said.

When the knife-wielding Shindle advanced on the officer he was shot and rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

The crash into the victim's house caused a minor gas leak, which first responders managed to quickly handle, Oldoerp said.
