A Dog Named Freedom Joins OC Fire Authority Arson Task Force
This dog can sniff out accelerants and comes to the Orange County Fire Authority from the ATF. Welcome home, Freedom!
ORANGE COUNTY, CA —Orange County Fire Authority announced a new employee, Friday. This one, of the four-legged variety. No, he's not a Dalmatian! Freedom is a golden Labrador, trained by the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms in the art of accelerant detection.
"He sniffs out flammable liquids, such as gasoline, to help determine arson-caused fires," OCFA Capt. Tony Bommarito told us.
Freedom will be handled by OCFA Investigator Miller, according to Bommarito. Miller and the canine will visit scenes during investigations to quickly determine the origin of that fire, and whether accelerants were used to start the blazes.
