Silent Auction Near Foothill Ranch Theater To Benefit School Programs

Foothill Ranch Elementary invites the public to bid on prizes such as a visit to Universal Studios on Monday afternoon at its fifth annual Silent Spring Auction.

A bowling party with a Disney star at Universal Studios is among a lineup of items on offer as part of a Monday afternoon fundraiser benefitting Foothill Ranch Elementary School.

The public is invited to attend the Silent Spring Auction from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Towne Centre Food Court near the Regal Theater in Foothill Ranch and bid on the range of prizes.

A nonprofit group, Foothill Ranch Kids Foundation, is holding the event for the fifth year in a row to ameliorate some of the effects of the state budget cuts on school programs.

The auction will close at 7:30 p.m.

The foundation's goal is to raise at least $30,000 to pay for programs eliminated during budget cuts, according to Kelly Regier, foundation spokeswoman.

"Our school principal, Ed MacNevin, has promised to spend a school day working on the roof if we meet that fundraising goal," she said.

The Foothill Ranch Kids Foundation already funds the salary of the school’s librarian, as well as other positions and programs lost in recent years due to budget cutbacks, Regier said.

According to the group, a portion of all food sales—including take out—from nearby restaurants will be donated to the foundation.
