Fatal Collision Stalls 5 Freeway In Lake Forest

LAKE FOREST, CA — A fatal collision in Lake Forest took the life of a Carson woman, officials said. The 61-year-old woman was fatally injured Tuesday in a crash on the San Diego (5) Freewa, reported just before 8:30 a.m. in the northbound lanes of the freeway, just south of Lake Forest Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The woman was driving a 2017 Nissan Armada in the truck bypass split lane when she veered to the left for unknown reasons toward the main lanes of the freeway and crashed into a 2015 Ford Explorer driven by a 64-year-old man from the San Diego County community of Alpine, the CHP reported. The Armada flipped over and was struck by the Explorer as the driver attempted to brake and avoid the crash, the CHP reported.

The woman, whose name was withheld pending family notification, was pronounced dead at the scene.
