Irvine Police Asks Residents To Register Their Bicycles

Irvine police are calling on residents to register their bikes as officers deal with a growing number of recovered stolen bicycles.

IRVINE, CA — The Irvine Police Department is calling on residents to register their bikes as it faces a growing stockpile of recovered stolen bicycles in its evidence room.

"We have so many recovered bikes in our property and evidence lockers but have no way of identifying their owners to return them," Irvine police posted on Facebook.

Cyclists can register their bikes with the online database 529 Garage, which started in 2013 as a way to reduce thefts and return stolen bicycles to their owners, the department said.
