Jewelry Box Collecting School Supplies for Needy Families

According to the National Retail Federation, this year's back to school expenses will average more than $650.

From a press release:

As the first day of school draws ever closer, many Orange County parents are finding it hard to pay for the supplies their children need to thrive in school.

“According to the National Retail Federation, this year’s back to school expenses will average more than $650,” says Christine Anzell, co-owner of The Jewelry Box of Lake Forest. “That’s a lot of money – especially when you’re considering that’s per child.”

To help local families out for the third straight year, The Jewelry Box of Lake Forest is collecting school supplies throughout the month of August. All supplies collected will be donated to South County Outreach, which coordinates distribution to area families.

“Think back to when you were a kid, and how much it meant to have a good backpack,” says co-owner Jack Levenson. “The notebooks, the binders, the index cards and colored pencils – having all of that stuff is really essential to helping kids focus on their education.”
