Orange County Man Joins CHP Ranks After Graduating Academy

LAKE FOREST, CA — A Lake Forest resident has joined the ranks of the men and women keeping our freeways safe, after Jose Rizo completed his cadet training at the California Highway Patrol Academy.

Rizo was assigned to duty at the CHP's Santa Fe Springs Area office. Prior to training to be a CHP officer, Rizo graduated from Golden West College in Huntington Beach, where he earned an Associates of Arts degree in criminal justice.

Rizo also served in the United States Marine Corps for five years, CHP Officer Rafael Reynoso told Patch.

As a part of his training, Rizo covered patrol operations, crash investigation, first aid and how to handle an arrest. Rizo also received training in traffic control, report writing, recovery of stolen vehicles, assisting the motoring public, issuing citations, emergency scene management and more.
