“Let’s Toon Out Cancer”

Often times when we think of the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life we think about raising money, but it isn’t just about the money.

On Sat., June 28, 2014, Relay For Life Foothill Ranch held its 3rd Relay.

The “Let’s Toon Out Cancer” theme was enthusiastically embraced by 10 teams and being able to keep it light was a blessing for participants when cancer and those suffering from it or lost to it was weighing heavy on many minds.

A cancer survivor’s recovery involves much more than medical treatments – it takes hope to heal.   Those touched by cancer feel empowered to fight back against this disease.   They are embraced by loved ones, friends and family who are there to be supportive.

Even though this Relay was small, it packed a punch with elaborate, cartoon characters delivering messages, booths decorated to the nines and mostly its hometown atmosphere of genuine, warmth and love.   No one was a stranger; everyone was graciously welcomed to participate in games, walk laps and have fun.

There was plenty of food for everyone at no cost and was donated by……BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse pizza in RSM, Jersey Mike’s sandwiches and plenty of water by H & R Block.  Later dinner included Rubio’s Burritos and Peppino’s Pasta.  There were even free massages given by Dr. Jonathan from Life Choice Wellness Center in Lake Forest.

Walk Around the Clock, Team HR, Holy Walkamolies, Team Mel-no-more and Med-Sci Fights are just a few of the teams that have raised nearly $18,000 to date.   Silent auction prizes included a bicycle, Angels baseball tickets with a parking pass, a handcrafted, pink, birdhouse, a basket of Simply green products plus much more.

It’s never too late to join in the fight.   To donate please go to foothillranchrelayforlife.org or check us out at facebook.com/foothillranchrelayforlife.
