Looking at the "Fake News" in Lake Forest

A few weeks ago some articles started appearing on the Bulletin Board of the Patch. They exposed fake news in Lake Forest. At first it looked like there would only be a few articles, but recently they seem to be coming out all the time.

Here is a summary of each of the articles and the link to each of them

Was Jim Gardner Behind First Recall?

The article goes through the fake news, the real information and then concludes that I wasn’t involved in the first recall – it was initiated by Leah Basile with no discussions with me beforehand.

Is Mark Tettemer active in Lake Forest?

In his candidate statement and in the candidate forum Mark Tetteemer falsely claims being active in many organizations when the truth is he hasn’t done anything in years.

Was Tom Cagley a part of a new “Gang of 3”

Despite all the false claims, the data is pretty clear. Tom Cagley voted more often with Dwight Robinson than he did with me or Leah Basile.

Was Jim Gardner behind Hamilton recall?

Just like the false claims that I helped initiate the first recall, the same is said about the second recall. The truth is this recall was initiated by Larissa Clark, a resident, who was very upset with Hamilton’s behavior and his failure to follow through on a promise to provide a safer cross-walk in her street.

Did Tettemer's achieve anything on the Council

Mark Tettemer has been touting his record on the Council, but the truth is Tettemer himself did almost nothing. Most of the programs initiated while Tettemer was there were initiated by the City Manager. Tettemer sat there and said “ok”. He’s been challenged, several times, to identify a single achievement that belongs to him – he can’t.

Is the Council lying when the say they knew nothing about the DA investigation?

Another recurring fake news story is that the City Council withheld information about an investigation by the D.A. An e-mail from the City Manager straightened up these false rumors.

Is Jim Gardner anti-police?

These lies have been promulgated by Council members Robinson and Voigts for years, and resurfaced lately. They can be refuted by the fact that no one has supported the Police more than me, worked with them, went on ride alongs, publicized their activities, and helped create the First Responders Grab and Go.

Is Jim Gardner anti-Christian?

Here’s another lie they trot out every so often based on the fact that I wrote a history book about Jesus. There’s nothing in that book that supports or detracts from the belief in Jesus. My book is part of a long tradition of historical accounts of the life of Jesus – Freud, Schweitzer, Jefferson, and many others wrote similar books.

Is Tettemer taking “special interest” money?

Tettemer took more than $30,000 from special interests the last time he was on the City Council. This time around he says he is going to self-fund. But the truth shows more of the same pattern of taking money from special interests.

Why is there so much fake news?

This election is a turning point for the City. We'll either continue making amazing progress or return to the "bad old days" when special interests ruled the City. Right now these special interests are flooding our mailboxes and littering our streets with their expensive materials. They can't criticize my record or the record of Sonny Morper, so instead they invent news and spread their false stories. Don't be fooled by the "fake news".
