Man, 67, ID'd In Fatal Rollover Crash; Driver Sought In OC

IRVINE, CA — An Orange County man died Thursday after he lost control of his car in Irvine, and police sought the public's help in finding a possible suspect.

Police were called to the intersection on Culver Drive and Trabuco Road in response to reports of a single-vehicle roll-over traffic crash Thursday, May 9 at 4:32 p.m.

Upon arriving, authorities rescued a driver from a 2004 Toyota Corolla and moved him to a local hospital in grave condition. He died of his injuries Monday night and was identified as Allen Yangkaou Lee, 67, of Irvine.

An initial investigation found the victim was driving his Toyota Corolla northbound on Culver Drive toward Trabuco Road. When his car drove into the intersection, a driver in a Honda Civic made a right turn against a red light from Trabuco Road onto northbound Culver Drive, police said.

The turning movement caused Lee to swerve and lose control of the car. He crashed with the center median of Culver Drive, a tree, and a light pole before coming to rest of the roof.

The driver of the Honda left the scene, driving northbound on Culver Drive, police said.

Authorities believe the suspect vehicle is a silver or beige, 2008 to 2011 Honda Civic or Civic Hybrid. The car has racing-style decals on the lower doors, and there appears to be red material on the door handles of the vehicle, according to dash-cam footage.

Detectives are asking drivers who were in the area at the time of the crash to review their dash-cam footage.
