Man Accused Of Stealing Luxury Bags On OfferUp In South OC Arrested

An Arizona man was arrested after he reportedly met people to buy luxury bags he found online, then left with the bags without paying.

IRVINE, CA — An Arizona man was arrested after he reportedly met people to buy luxury bags he found online, then left with the bags without paying.

The Irvine Police Department said on social media that detectives connected two similar thefts, one that occurred at Woodbury Town Center early January and another at Carlson Avenue and Campus Drive Monday morning.

In the first incident, the suspect took a Louis Vuitton bag that was listed for sale on OfferUp, while Monday's theft involved a Dior handbag that was listed on Facebook Marketplace, police said.

On Monday, detectives surveilled a friend of the suspected thief and followed them to an apartment in Huntington Beach before spotting a "vehicle quickly flee the area."

The California Highway Patrol pulled the vehicle over on the 10 Freeway, with the suspect, 22-year-old Tralin Nhjheym Newman, was found lying in the backseat, according to police.

Police said the Dior bag was found in the car and returned to the victim.

Newman was booked into the Orange County Jail and faces robbery charges, police said.
