Man Armed With Machete Holds Family Hostage In OC: Police
Residents were warned to steer clear of the area while police are engaged in an active standoff Wednesday afternoon.
IRVINE, CA — A man armed with a machete was engaged in a standoff with police Wednesday afternoon after apparently refusing to allow four family members to leave their home in Irvine.
A relative of the man went to the Irvine police station at around 2:15 p.m. to report the dispute, happening in the 100 block of Terrapin, according to the Irvine Police Department.
Four family members in an upstairs bedroom were not being allowed to leave by the suspect, police said.

Just after 4 p.m., police were able to get the four family members out of the home with ladders.
As of 4:15 p.m., police were still negotiating with the man to surrender.
