Man Arrested For Demanding Free Gas At Orange County Gas Station

IRVINE, CA — A man was arrested in Orange County after police say he demanded free gas at an Irvine station.
The Irvine Police Department released body camera footage of their encounter with the man last week.
Police said the man walked into an unnamed gas station, demanded $55 in gas and refused to pay.

According to police, the man decided to camp out at the station and wait for free gas that never arrived.
"I sincerely believe that money as a unit of payment is not real," the man told officers as he sat inside of his car.

"Our officers deployed their expert patience and negotiation skills, trying to get the man to leave while navigating a debate over whether money is real," the department wrote in a Facebook post.
"The reality is that once we exhaust all our options, disobeying a lawful order will result in very real consequences," the department said.
