Man Convicted Of Molesting 3 Lake Forest Girls

A 35-year-old man was convicted of molesting 3 children in Lake Forest, including a child he was babysitting. He faces 70 years in prison.

LAKE FOREST, CA — A 35-year-old man was convicted for molesting three Lake Forest girls, Orange County prosecutors said, Tuesday. He faces 70 years to life in prison.

Sean Joseph Scanlan was convicted Monday of three counts of lewd or lascivious acts with a minor, a count of lewd or lascivious acts with a minor younger than 14, a count of statutory rape, and a count of distribution of pornography to a minor with the intent to engage in sexual conduct, all felonies.

Scanlan was convicted of molesting one girl when she was 4 and 5 years old, another girl when she was 8 to 10 years old, and a third girl when she was 6 to 7 years old, said Deputy District Attorney Heidi Garrel.

One of the victims was a relative, one was a family friend and another was a friend of one of the victims, Garrel said. The most recent victim was molested in 2014 through 2016, and the other crimes happened in 2000 through 2004, Garrel said.

Scanlan was the babysitter of the most recent victim, starting when she was 4, Garrel said. He would watch pornography while babysitting her and showed it to the victim, who told her mother, prompting her to call police, Garrel said.

His sentencing is set for July 13.
