Man Fatally Shot New Year's Day In Lake Forest

LAKE FOREST, CA — A man was found with a fatal gunshot wound in an alley in Lake Forest, early Wednesday morning, police report. The unnamed approximately 20-year-old man died at a hospital after being found in an alley in Lake Forest not breathing and bleeding from a gunshot wound.

Orange County Sheriff's Department deputies were dispatched about 1:30 a.m. to a residential area near Second Street and Village Drive, the department reported.

He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at short time later. His name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

He may have been with a group of people at a New Year's Eve party, and the people at the party found him, sheriff's Lt. Chad Taylor of the Orange County Sheriff's Department told the media.

Neighbors told the station they heard partying and some midnight fireworks but one woman who was in the area said it was something soon after caught her attention.

"I said those weren't fireworks. Those were gunshots," the woman told CBS2 news.
