Man Shot On El Toro In Lake Forest, Cops Search For Suspect: OCSD

LAKE FOREST, CA — A transient allegedly shot a man outside businesses on El Toro Road, Monday. Orange County Sheriff's Department searched for an "armed and dangerous" suspect, according to OCSD. Those lockdowns were released as of 12:30 p.m. though "no suspect was in custody" at that time, OCSD spokesperson Carrie Braun told patch.

Deputies were initially called to the 23000 block of El Toro at Muirlands at just after 9:30 a.m. Monday over an altercation between two parties, OCSD told Patch. The victim "got into an argument with the transient," who "pulled out a gun and shot the victim in the forearm and fled the area," Braun said.

One victim was shot in the arm, and at least one suspect fled the scene into the residential area farther down Muirlands. DUKE helicopter flew the area, and patrols were heavy in the nearby neighborhoods, seeking a Caucasian male in his 40s, wearing a "black or white" shirt, last seen wearing a "red hat," Braun said.

The victim, shot in the incident, did not "appear to have life threatening injuries," according to Braun. No further information was released on the victim, who was transported to an area hospital.

OCSD is still trying to determine what occurred prior to the shooting, though they verified a skirmish between the victim and suspect.

During the initial search, Serrano Intermediate School, Olivewood Elementary and Heritage Christian School Junior High and High School were placed on locked down to keep students safe. The students were not in jeopardy, according to Braun.

"Everyone is all right, and this was precautionary," a Heritage Christian School spokesperson said. "Kids are in the classrooms, and are safe."

Oxford Charter School was also reported as locked down during the event.
