OC Woman Accused Of Stealing $373K From Grandmother Pleads Not Guilty
An Irvine woman pleaded not guilty on Thursday to stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from her cancer-stricken grandmother.
LAKE FOREST, CA — An Irvine woman pleaded not guilty Thursday to stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from her cancer-afflicted grandmother, the Orange County Register reported.
Lashawn Ellesse Owens, 35, was charged with two counts each of grand theft and theft from an elder and a count of stealing a car, all felonies, according to the report. Owens also faces sentence enhancements for aggravated white-collar crime between $100,000 and $500,000.
According to the report, Owens was taking care of her grandmother, Phyllis Owens, due to a family arrangement shortly after the 72-year-old woman was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer, the report said.
