Orange County Residents May Hear Booms, Explosions Wednesday

At least 250 pounds of explosive material will be disposed of in Irvine on Wednesday, the Orange County Sheriff's Department reported.

IRVINE, CA — Orange County residents may hear explosions on Wednesday, as the Orange County Sheriff's Department's Hazardous Devices Section disposes of at least 250 pounds of explosives in Irvine.

According to a news release, the explosives will be detonated in "shot holes" dug into the ground. Roughly eight pounds of material will be detonated in each shot hole, authorities said.

The Orange County Fire Authority and the Orange County Health Care Agency will be onsite from 11:30 a.m. to noon to ensure the safety of the operation, officials said.
