Pro-Palestinian Protestors Gather Outside UCI Chancellor's Home

The group of more than two dozen students rallied outside UC Irvine Chancellor Howard Gilman's house in University Hills on Memorial Day.

UNIVERSITY HILLS, CA — Pro-Palestinian student protestors rallied outside UC Irvine Chancellor Howard Gilman's house in University Hills on Memorial Day.

More than two dozen protestors attended the morning rally, some holding graphic posters and others using megaphones to spread the chant: "Howard Gillman you won't rest until UCI divests."

The group was there from about 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. before voluntarily dispersing.

Prior to that, protestors occupied the lawn outside the Physical Sciences Lecture Hall for a little over two weeks to demand that UCI disclose any financial ties with Israel and divest from all companies that do business with Israel.

Protestors have also called for an immediate and permanent ceasefire.

"We wanted to show [Gilman] that we are not going to sit still and be quiet about what happened on May 15 and what is still happening in Palestine,” Sarah Khalil, a fourth-year undergraduate student at UCI, told The Orange County Register.
