A crisis team spent about five hours with the man in a Trabuco Canyon park.

TRABUCO CANYON, CA – An armed suicidal man who held sheriff's deputies at bay for about five hours Tuesday at a park in Trabuco Canyon ended up fatally shooting himself despite the efforts of crisis negotiators.
The standoff began about 4 p.m. in a dirt parking lot at Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park in the 27900 block of Glenn Ranch Road, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Department.
A crisis negotiation team was at the scene trying to get the 59-year-old man to exit his vehicle without the firearm, but about 9:30 p.m. the sheriff's department announced the man had shot himself and was pronounced dead at the scene.
