Saddleback Church Kicks Off Concert Series

Jazz, blues, gospel and Latin sounds are on tap. The free Sunday evening shows run through the end of August.

launched its outdoor Summer Concert Series on Sunday evening with contemporary-jazz guitarist Blake Aaron playing to a small but appreciative crowd.

The free weekly music series continues through the end of August and feature a range of styles, from gospel and blues to Latin and pop.

“It’s geared for everyone in the community,” said event organizer Maila Dumaup.

At Sunday's show, Lake Forest resident Roland Velazquez called the performance “really cool and a great way to wind down from the day.”

Aug. 7: David Pack, a former member of Ambrosia who also served as musical director for President Clinton's inaugural ceremonies.

Aug. 14: Tesoro High School Choir, which will perform a variety of musical genres.

Aug. 21: Greg Vail, a smooth-jazz saxophonist.

Aug. 28: The Tony Guerrero Band. Guerrero is a jazz flügelhorn player, trumpeter and composer.

All shows start at 7 p.m. at the Refinery Amphitheater, immediately after the church's 5 p.m. service.

“Summer nights should be spent listening to good music,” said Roger Guff, a Mission Viejo resident who attended Aaron's concert and said he hoped to be back for the rest of the series.
