San Juan Capistrano to Explore Animal Care Options

Joins 3 other South County cities in looking for viable alternatives to the County shelter

The City of San Juan Capistrano (SJC) met Tuesday night and voted unanimously to explore options in providing animal care services. SJC is one of 18 cities contracting with the County, and is one of the 4 cities in South Orange County. SJC stressed the need for a South County shelter, as well as the possibilities of joining with San Clemente and Dana Point who operate a joint shelter and service. They also discussed the idea of working with the cities of Lake Forest, Laguna Hills, and RSM in their efforts.

The motion reads, in part – “The City regularly reviews its commitment to the Orange County Animal Care and is evaluating possible alternatives to partner with neighboring agencies and non-profit organizations for animal control and shelter services. The City will consider the cost and schedule estimates for a new facility or facilities when this information is available from the County.”
