4,000-pound turkey donation will help local residents in need this holiday season

Today, Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County kicked off Farm to Food Bank Month with a donation of approximately 4,000 pounds of turkeys from Foster Farms. The turkeys will be distributed in the coming weeks to help feed local families in need this holiday season.

Farm to Food Bank Month was created to shine a spotlight on the needs of food banks and the people they serve. Despite Orange County having among the highest median home prices in the country, 335,000 people, including one in five children, are at risk of hunger, with more than 20 percent of residents unable to afford necessities.

Barbara Wartman, Director of Marketing & Public Relations at Second Harvest, was in attendance to receive the donation and speak to the area’s level of food insecurity and the need for donations this holiday season. Protein remains a high-demand items for food banks, and Second Harvest encourages the community to join Foster Farms in donating turkeys, protein and fresh fruits and vegetables.
