See Aftermath Of Flying Car Crash: I-5 Fwy Into Motel 6 Lot

One man was taken to the hospital but was still alive after this terrifying crash. when a car "flew" off I-5 & tumbled into a Motel 6 lot.

ORANGE, CA — A man was rushed to a nearby Orange County hospital after the car he was driving flew off of the northbound Santa Ana 5 Freeway and tumbled into a Motel 6 parking lot in Orange, authorities said Monday.

The crash was reported about 10:30 p.m. Sunday after a driver left the northbound Santa Ana Freeway at Chapman Avenue, a California Highway Patrol dispatcher in Santa Ana said. It is not known as of this report why the vehicle rocketed from the roadway, or if alcohol or drugs were involved.

"(The car) literally skidded out of the freeway, flew and landed across the street. It crashed majorly and looks almost flat," Christy Roget, a witness said from the scene. "It was a devastating situation."

Orange Police and firefighters responded to the smoking wreckage where one man was trapped inside the vehicle.

The car came off the 5 North freeway, according to City of Orange firefighter Erik Birkelbach. The vehicle landed in the Motel 6 parking lot at 2920 West Chapman Ave., according to Birkelbach.

The driver was injured but alive, and freed by firefighters, he said. The driver was then taken to a hospital for treatment. The crash occurred near UCI Medical Center in the city of Orange.
