South County Outreach launches backpack and school supply drive
South County Outreach is hoping to give more than 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies to local children in need to help them enter their classrooms ready for a successful school year. The nonprofit organization is seeking donations of new backpacks and supplies from local businesses, organizations and individuals.
In the past two years South County Outreach has provided its youngest clients with more than 2,000 back-to-school backpacks, helping them be prepared to learn even though finances may be tight at home.

“It is so important for these students to have the basics that other children have to start school,” said South County Outreach Executive Director Lara Fisher. “We want them to feel confident when they walk into their new classrooms knowing that they don’t have to worry about supplies. We want them to be able to focus on what is being taught.”
In addition to new backpacks for students ages 5-17, the following items are needed: pencils, pens, colored pencils, crayons, paper (both wide-ruled and college-ruled), spiral notebooks, scissors, erasers, rulers, folders, glue, composition books, pencil sharpeners, highlighters, binders, scientific calculators and mechanical pencils.
