Lake Forest Traffic Commission Moves Forward

City Council agrees to consider Traffic and Parking Commission

LAKE FOREST, CA — In addition to the animal care discussion Tuesday night (Click Here), the Council decided to agendize a discussion to create a Traffic and Parking Commission.

During the “Council Comments” section I proposed this idea, and Council members Nick and Voigts supported the idea. The impetus came from public comments by Lake Forest resident Larissa Clark who reported an accident involving her daughter a few years ago, and her hopes that something would have changed at the intersection, but nothing has.

Meanwhile we’ve had several major accidents on Muirlands and on Overlake. In addition, parking problems continue on Raymond Ave and in Bennet Ranch and residents are worried about speeding on Kiley and on Overlake. Traffic congestion around schools is ever present.

Staff will bring back the idea of the Traffic and Parking Commission. Councilman Voigts suggested that since we cut the time for the Planning Commission from 2 to 1 day per month, the new Commission could be held within the confines of the old Planning Commission. Normal Planning meetings could be held on the one date and Traffic and Parking on the second date.

Hopefully staff will get back to us before we consider new appointments to the Planning Commission, so that experience and interest in Traffic and Parking can be taken into account.

Traffic congestion, accidents, and parking problems are major concerns for our residents. We need a Commission to respond to these problems and come up with better solutions that we have.
