Woman's Body Found Inside Car Submerged In Irvine Lake

A rescue team continued to search the lake for additional victims after pulling a sedan out of the water overnight.

IRVINE, CA — The body of a woman was found in a car submerged in the Irvine Woodbridge development's lake, authorities announced Friday morning.

The discovery was made Thanksgiving night following an extensive search by rescue crews, according to the Orange County Fire Authority.

Shortly before 10 p.m. Thursday, firefighters were called to the lake at the intersection of East Yale Loop and West Yale Loop in Irvine to search for a vehicle that went into the water.

A fire authority swift water team, a Huntington Beach helicopter and ground crews along with the Irvine Police Department joined in the search.

"Sadly, one individual, an adult female was confirmed deceased inside the vehicle," the Orange County Fire Authority announced. "Irvine Police is in charge of the scene at this time."

After finding the vehicle and body, divers continued to search the lake for additional victims.

It wasn't immediately clear what caused the vehicle to crash into the lake.
