The ALS Association in San Diego announced that $200,000 was donated at its recent 2022 ALS Fiesta fundraising dinner. Carlsbad-based Ionis Pharmaceuticals was the presenting sponsor of the ALS Association’s seventh annual ALS Fiesta held May 18 at Valley View Casino & Hotel in Valley Center. The fundraising goal was $150,000. It was the first in-person ALS Fiesta held since 2019.

The fundraiser included Steve Fisher, retired San Diego State University basketball coach, announcing the launch of Athletes vs. ALS, a new initiative that invites the sports community to help raise awareness and donations for research for ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, often called Lou Gehrig’s disease, a progressive neurodegenerative disease that usually leads to total paralysis.
