Art exhibit at La Mesa health library

La Mesa health library features art exhibit with 45 paintings

The Dr. William C. Herrick Community Health Care Library, a consumer health library at 9001 Wakarusa St. in La Mesa, is now hosting an art exhibit featuring 45 paintings by Michael Dayon of La Mesa. The exhibit, ending Sept. 30, features Dayon’s paintings in a variety of media, including alkyd-oil, acrylic, gouache, graphite and mixed media. Also on display is Dayon’s “Fritz the Pearman” series (Fritz is Dayon’s “struggling artist” alter ego).

Now retired, Dayon can be found selling his paintings along with many artists on weekends at the Shelter Island Art Association’s Art-in-the-Park event on San Diego’s Shelter Island near the traffic circle. Dayon also is a member of the East County Art Association and Foothills Art Association. A native of Minnesota, Dayon started painting at age 26. He then diverted into sculpture and sold about 200 works in alabaster, marble and wood before returning to painting about 15 years ago.

Admission to the Herrick Community Health Care Library is free. The Summer Art Exhibit is open to the public during regular library hours, which are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesdays through Fridays, and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. For more information, phone (619) 825-5010 or visit www.herricklibrary.org.
