Barricaded Suspect Prompts Spring Valley SWAT Standoff

SPRING VALLEY, CA — A fugitive holed up in a mobile home Thursday in Spring Valley when authorities arrived to take him into custody, prompting a five-hour SWAT standoff that ended with his arrest.

The suspect, whose name was not immediately released, refused to surrender when deputy federal marshals tried to serve him with a felony arrest warrant at a trailer park in the 10700 block of Jamacha Boulevard about 1:30 p.m., sheriff's Lt. Shawn Wray said.

A sheriff's SWAT team was called in a short time later to take up positions around the suspect's residence, and surrounding mobile homes were evacuated as a precaution.

Crisis negotiators worked through the afternoon and into the evening to try to persuade the suspect to give himself up.

Special weapons and tactics personnel made entry to the mobile home about 6:30 p.m. and took the suspect into custody without further incident, Wray said.

No injuries were reported.

It was unclear why federal agents were seeking the man's arrest.
