• Preparing for El Niño in East County (timesofsandiego.com) — La Mesa residents are being urged to think ahead about El Niño, especially if you live near Alvarado Road or in unincorporated areas along Avocado Road that fall in FEMA flood zones. While we're safe from coastal flooding, intense rains could still cause local problems, including around Lake Murray and key commuter routes like Federal Boulevard and the 94 in Lemon Grove. 
• SANDAG breaks ground on 2 transportation projects in San Diego (cbs8.com) — New SANDAG "complete streets" projects in City Heights and Kensington will soon extend a bikeway network that directly links La Mesa with several San Diego neighborhoods. Within about a year, residents should see safer bike lanes, calmer traffic, and better walking connections that make regional trips between La Mesa, City Heights, Normal Heights, and North Park easier without a car.
