County Assessor’s Office to Offer Star Wars-themed Weddings on Monday, May the 4th (May the 4th Be With You)

Jordan Z. Marks, San Diego County Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk (ARCC), who also serves as the San Diego County commissioner of civil marriages, is inviting couples to get married or renew their wedding vows with a special Star Wars-themed wedding ceremony on Monday, May 4, known by Star Wars fans by the phrase, “May the 4th be with you.”

Marks said his Downtown San Diego office at the County Administration Center, 1600 Pacific Highway, will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, May 4 for marriage license and wedding ceremony services. Free underground parking is available at the County downtown garage at the Ash Street entrance.

Couples are encouraged to wear Star Wars-themed costumes, including Jedi, Sith, droids or other characters. Marks said he will officiate wedding ceremonies using Star Wars-inspired vows.

“In every great love story, there’s a spark that brings two people together, call it destiny, or call it the Force,” said Marks. “On May 4th, I will become the `Yoda’ of love and invite couples to bring their own happily-ever-after love story jedi-style with both a meaningful and unforgettable Star Wars inspired ceremony in a galaxy not so far away.”

Cost for a marriage license is $129. Cost for an ARCC staff member to perform the ceremony in English or Spanish is an additional $107.

The ARCC office is responsible for issuing marriage licenses, birth and death certificates, as well as registering business names and recording all legal real estate documents. On average, the ARCC office provides nearly 25,000 marriage licenses and performs more than 11,000 weddings annually.
