Ex-Grossmont Union Teacher Arrested After Sex Misconduct Allegations

LA MESA, CA — Police arrested a former East County teacher Wednesday on felony and misdemeanor charges following an investigation into sexual misconduct allegations.

Citing privacy rights, Grossmont Union High School District did not identify the former Granite Hills High School teacher.

NBC7 reported that Gerald Lopez was arrested in El Cajon. He was arrested on suspicion of possession of obscene material of a minor in a sexual act, harmful matter sent with interest to seduce a minor and annoy or molest a victim under the age of 18.

Grossmont Union High School District issued a news release that said the district learned of the allegations on June 14 and immediately notified law enforcement and Child Welfare Services.

"We then conducted a prompt and thorough investigation," the district said. "As a result, the employee no longer works for the Grossmont Union High School District."

According to the district, the El Cajon Police Department informed the district of the former teacher's arrested on Wednesday.

"We thank our partners in the El Cajon Police Department for their efforts to keep our schools and community safe," the district said.

"There is nothing more important to us than the safety of our students," the district added. "We condemn all acts of sexual misconduct, take all such allegations very seriously, and are committed to taking swift and appropriate action to ensure the safety of our students just as we've done in this case."
