Fallout from Chargers move

Advertising group nixes social media program with San Diego Chargers

SDX has announced an upcoming program on sports social media using Snapchat and Instagram and featuring a speaker from the San Diego Chargers has been cancelled. The program, titled “How the NFL is Increasing Social Engagement Through Effective Brand Storytelling,” was scheduled to be held Wednesday, Jan. 18. The scheduled speaker was to be Joel Price, the Chargers’ senior manager of digital content. Price has been responsible for creating social initiatives for the NFL club for the past 16 seasons

“We were excited to welcome Joel but as a result of the Chargers announcement to relocate to Los Angeles he is no longer able to participate,” said Brian Hilemon, 2016-2017 SDX president. “Without a speaker and no time to find a suitable replacement, we had to cancel the event.”

Hilemon said refunds would be available to any attendees who had paid in advance. Founded in 1911, SDX, formerly known as the San Diego Advertising Club, is San Diego’s oldest continuously operating business trade association.
