Grossmont Stumbles at Granite Hills, Falling 27-23 in Last Minutes

Hillers lose lead to Eagles after second-quarter comeback from 14-0 first-quarter deficit.

Grossmont High School saw its lead disappear in the last few minutes of a  Halloween weekend game as Granite Hills prevailed 27-23 Friday night in El Cajon.

Friday night’s game didn’t start well for the Foothillers as the Eagles went up 14-0 in the first quarter. Grossmont came back in the second quarter with two touchdowns, but an extra-point kick was blocked just before the half. Ryan Green made a 12-yard receiving TD, and Lawson Medeiros had a four-yard TD catch for the second score.

In the third quarter, Grossmont’s J.T. Barnes kicked a field goal, and Jacob Griffiths made a 23-yard catch to put the Hillers ahead 23-20. But with 1:15 left in the game, the Hiller defense was unable to keep the Eagles from going into the end zone for the final score of 27-23.
