Helix Edges Grossmont in 5-Game Nail-Biter at the Highlanders Gym

Rivals raised the roof, with final volleyball game tied 14-14. Both play Valhalla in the coming week.

Helix Charter High School defeated visiting Grossmont 3 games to 2 in league play Thursday evening. With games tied 2-2 and the score in the fifth game 14-14, the cheering sections from each school cranked up the volleyball volume. The Scotties scored the next two points to up their league record to 2-4 under coach Linda Brown. The Foothillers fell to 1-4 in league under coach Armando Fry. Helix took the first game 25-16, Grossmont the second and third 25-20 and 25-19, and Helix came back with a 25-18 in the fourth game and won deciding game 16-14. Both Helix and Grossmont will host Valhalla in coming days, with the the Hillers meeting the Norsemen on Oct. 18 and the Highlanders taking on Valhalla on Oct. 20.
