Grossmont High Felled by Torrey Pines in CIF Baseball

Rematch on Thursday will decide finalist in Division I title game Saturday at Tony Gwynn Stadium.

Despite 12 strikeouts by senior right-hander Joe Musgrove and rally caps in the seventh inning, Grossmont High School fell 3-2 Tuesday afternoon to Torrey Pines High School in the CIF Division I baseball playoffs. That set up a rematch at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Grossmont’s Gizoni Field.   The Foothillers got runs from a combination of two walks, a double-steal and a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning, and then a solo home run by junior Nick Rochester in the fifth. The Falcons got six hits off Musgrove, who now owns a record of 7-4. The Hillers, under coach Jim Earley, are 25-7 for the season.
