Grossmont Loses First Game of the Season to 5-1 Valhalla High School

Hillers are kept scoreless in the second half as Norsemen prevail at Homecoming 41-7.

In its first league game of the season, Grossmont High School suffered its first loss of the year when Valhalla beat the visiting Foothillers 41-7 in Rancho San Diego amid Homecoming for the Norsemen, now 5-1.

Valhalla dominated from the first possession, leading 20-7 at halftime and leaving the Hillers scoreless in the second half.

Grossmont suffered three turnovers—a fumbled punt, a fumble on a rushing play and an interception. The Hillers couldn’t stop the speedy Norsemen.

Highlights for the Hillers included a touchdown by Ryan Davis-Tucker in the second quarter, a 50-yard kickoff return by Jeff Bowers in the first half and a 53-yard run by Ryan Green.

The leading rushers for Grossmont were Green (63 yards) and Jacob Griffiths (64 yards). Sophomore quarterback Anthony Lawrence completed 17 of 32 passes as Ron Murphy’s team fell to 4-1-1.

Next up for Grossmont—Helix Charter High School’s top-ranked team visits at 7 p.m. Friday.
