Black Gloves Mistaken For Gun In La Mesa 'Possible Gunman' Incident [UPDATE]
The report of an individual with weapon this morning set off police searches, school lockdowns near near Helix High School.

LA MESA, CA – UPDATE: MONDAY, MAY 15, 1:50 p.m.
That man reported as possibly carrying a gun on the grounds of Helix High School was unarmed, according to police.
Officers determined that a passer-by mistook black gloves the man was wearing with a gun.

The suspect was, however, arrested for trespassing on school grounds.

MONDAY, MAY 15, 11:05 a.m.
La Mesa police have detained someone in connection with a report this morning that a possible gunman was seen near Helix High School, but have not found a weapon. Officers are expected to clear the area of Yale and University avenues shortly.
Someone with a weapon was reported near Helix High School, but police said at approximately 10 a.m. that the students were safe.
La Mesa police said area schools were placed on a precautionary lockdown as they investigated the report that a male, described as wearing a striped shirt, grey sweats and blue shorts, was seen near Helix High with a gun.
A helicopter crew assisted officers with the search.
