Ocean West Carpet Care owner Branston Cyphers is speaking out publicly for the first time about the PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) he suffered after a horrific encounter during his service in the United States Marines Corps.
Branston, who spent 12 years in the military, served as a foreign exchange student in Mongolia in 2008. While in the landlocked country, which is located between China and Russia, he was kidnapped and beaten by a group police officers and locals. Branston was thrown into a ditch and left for dead, but help arrived later that morning and he was able to survive.
“The events from that night tore my word apart, and I eventually departed from the Marines,” said Branston. “I struggled with PTSD in outpatient therapy until I got the help I needed from Veterans Affairs. Thanks to their support and therapy sessions, I am a much happier and healthier person.”
Today, Branston is a father and business owner, opening Ocean West Carpet Care in La Mesa in 2010. The company offers professional services including carpet cleaning, rug cleaning, upholstery cleaning, tile and grout cleaning, odor removal, and pet stain removal. They are a proud member of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce.
Branston is hoping to further discuss his experience and treatment process at local events and speaking engagements, to help provide support to others who have faced similar struggles.
