Learn at SDSU How to Teach English Abroad

SDSU will be offering its popular 130-hour Teaching English as a Second Language/Teaching English as a Foreign Language certificate program.

If you would like to learn how to earn money teaching English abroad, then San Diego State University has a program that is perfect for you.

SDSU will be offering its popular 130-hour Teaching English as a Second Language/Teaching English as a Foreign Language certificate program that prepares novice instructors to live and teach English overseas Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6-9 p.m., from Sept. 9-Nov. 20.

“Those four weeks really changed my perspective and gave me a lot of confidence. I think that’s the main thing because I’ve never taught before. They give you everything that you need; all of the tools,” said former student Alicia Wszelaki, who completed the program and then traveled the globe teaching English.

These sessions are offered through the American Language Institute, a division of SDSU’s College of Extended Studies. Cost of the program is $2,725.

More than 150 graduates of the program have been employed in nearly 40 countries with the help of the ALI’s job placement assistance program, which combines a solid teaching foundation with hands-on practical classroom experience. Former students include:
 Pablo Serrano, who has worked for the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education in a Korean public middle school. “This program provides the training and guidance to succeed working abroad. I highly recommend it to anyone who is considering teaching overseas.”
 Jon Hershman, who set sail for three months and traveled the seven seas on the Coral Prince cruise liner teaching English as a foreign language. “Thanks to the knowledge and experience I gained through the program, I was able to set foot in over 10 countries and meet beautiful, extraordinarily enthusiastic friends from around the world.”
