Man Dies in I-8 Freeway Crash Near Qualcomm Stadium

SAN DIEGO, CA — A 23-year-old San Diego man was fatally injured early Wednesday in a single-vehicle rollover crash on Interstate 8 near Qualcomm Stadium.

The victim, whose name was not immediately released, lost control of his pickup truck on a curve in the eastbound side of the freeway approaching the Interstate 15 interchange shortly after 1:30 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol and the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.

The truck hit the center divider at a high rate of speed and overturned.

The driver was pulled from the wreckage, but died at a hospital about 40 minutes after the crash.

Two lanes were temporarily closed after the accident, according to the CHP.
