Police ID Man Found Dead on Allied Gardens Baseball Field [UPDATED]

BREAKING: San Diego police are investigating the death as suspicious.

SAN DIEGO, CA — A man whose body was discovered Monday morning on the baseball field of the Allied Gardens Recreation Center was identified Monday evening as Aaron Randall Miller, 28, of San Diego.

Miller's death is being investigated as suspicious, according to San Diego police.

Officers and San Diego Fire-Rescue personnel responded to the scene about 7 a.m. Monday when a citizen called police to report "an unconscious male in the middle of a baseball field at the Allied Gardens Recreation Center, in the 5100 block of Greenbrier Avenue, in Allied Gardens," police Lt. Manny Del Toro stated in a news release.

Del Toro said the victim — later identified as Miller — was found lying on his back in the grass area of the field. The victim was cold to the touch and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities worked to confirm Miller's identity and notify his family members before publicly releasing his name.

Activities at the recreation center near Lewis Middle School were suspended Monday morning and officers and detectives searched the area for witnesses.

"There were no obvious signs of trauma but after closer examination, officers noticed a small potential wound in the torso area," Del Toro said. "The homicide unit responded to investigate what is now being handled as a suspicious death."

The baseball field reopened for normally scheduled activities sometime after noon.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of Miller's death.

Anyone with information related to the incident is encouraged to call the San Diego Police Department’s Homicide Unit or San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
