A two-alarm fire tore through a commercial building in La Mesa Friday night, causing extensive structural damage.
The blaze in the 4300 block of Palm Avenue erupted for unknown reasons shortly before 6 p.m., according to Heartland Fire & Rescue.
Crews were still working to subdue hot spots a half-hour later, a dispatcher said. The personnel had the fire under control by 6:45 p.m., according to the emergency-services agency.
