Inspired by a recent report that showed police response times averaged 40 minutes to calls involving serious crimes, including domestic violence, San Diego County Gun Owners (SDCGO), a political action committee promoting and advocating for Second Amendment rights, has scheduled a free, live educational webinar just for women on how to apply for a Concealed-Carry Weapon (CCW) permit from 7 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Aug 9.

Webinar topics will include the CCW legal process through the San Diego County Sheriffs Dept., how to complete the CCW application and resources available from SDCGO. CCW applicants are required to pass a criminal background check, complete a state-mandated curriculum on firearms safety and laws and pay a fee. A recent U.S. Supreme Court decision nullified a previous requirement to state a “good cause” reason on the CCW permit application.

Information about the CCW webinar is available on the SDCGO website, www.sandiegocountygunowners.com, as well as the SDCGO Facebook page, www.facebook.com/SDCGO. Webinar registration information is available at https://tinyurl.com/ladies-ccw-aug2022.

Webinar presenter will be Desiree Bergman, project manager of SDCGO’s #NotMeSD, a mentoring program that helps women begin the journey to protect themselves with a firearm.

Since #NotMeSD was launched in 2019, SDCGO reports more than 600 women have completed the #NotMeSD program that is designed to end sexual assault and domestic violence by educating women about firearms and helping all women everywhere with purchasing a firearm, receiving firearms safety training and obtaining a CCW permit. All women are invited to learn more about the #NotMeSD program at www.NotMeSD.org, or send an email to desiree@notmesd.org.

The number of CCW holders in San Diego County exceeds 6,400, an increase from about 1,100 in 2017.

A recent audit of the San Diego Police Department revealed response times in fiscal year 2022 were the longest they’ve been in more than a decade. While officers arrive at deadly shootings emergencies in a few minutes, response times to Priority 1 calls, a grouping that includes domestic violence and child abuse, averaged about 40 minutes. That’s more than double the department’s target time of 14 minutes.

Founded in 2015, San Diego County Gun Owners is a registered political action committee (FPPC ID #1379388) and advocacy organization focused on organizing the gun industry and community and protecting the U.S. Constitution’s Second Amendment right to bear arms. Based on its membership size of more than 3,200 individuals, SDCGO is considered San Diego’s largest registered PAC as well as civil rights organization.

The PAC provides news and information on new gun laws and Second Amendment advocacy. Its sponsored events include gun safety classes, small gun shows, sporting clay shoots, social gatherings and pistol, rifle and shotgun experiences taught by professional instructors.

SDCGO features a diverse and inclusive membership with representatives the LGBT, Latino, African American, Asian and Pacific Islander communities. While every U.S. state has a Second Amendment PAC, along with several nationwide gun rights PACs, the SDCGO is believed to be the America’s first, strictly local, countywide Second Amendment advocacy organization.
