Updated: Sheriff Deputy Serving Warrant in La Mesa Is Injured
The incident took place on Jackson Drive.
A confrontation between sheriff's personnel and a suspect at a gas station near Grossmont Center mall today left a lawman with a stab wound to the leg and the alleged assailant wounded by a second deputy's gunfire.
The violent encounter occurred at Center and Jackson drives in La Mesa about 9:15 a.m.
The deputies were responding to a report of a suspicious person when a man attacked one of them, prompting another to open fire to stop the assault, La Mesa police Lt. Angela DeSarro told reporters.

Medics took both wounded men to hospitals. The deputy was expected to recover, according to sheriff's officials. The suspect's condition was not immediately available.
Officers shut down traffic lanes around the gas station to allow detectives to gather evidence.
