Toddler Drowns In La Mesa Pool

BREAKING: The boy's parents told police they put their son to bed Monday night and found him in the pool Tuesday morning.

LA MESA, CA – A toddler drowned Tuesday morning in a swimming pool at an East County home, authorities said.

The parents of the 2-year-old boy found him in the pool around 9 a.m. on the 7200 block of Princeton Avenue in La Mesa, according to the La Mesa Police Department. They performed CPR on their son until paramedics arrived, police said.

Medics performed CPR on the boy at the scene before taking him to Sharp Grossmont Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The parents said they thought they locked the sliding glass door that led to the backyard, police said. The pool was not fenced.

Police said there was no information to believe that any foul play was involved. It appears to be an accidental drowning, according to officials.
