Adding To Wednesday's BART Woes: Man Jumped On Tracks To Retrieve Small Items In Lafayette
He took off before police arrived.

A man jumped onto the tracks at the Lafayette BART station to retrieve items this morning, contributing to other delays on the transit system today, according to a BART police lieutenant.
Around 7:30 a.m., police received reports that a man had jumped onto the tracks to retrieve several small items, BART police Lt. Aaron Ledford said.
Ledford said it was unclear what the man was attempting to retrieve because he was gone by the time officers arrived.

Witnesses told police they also weren’t sure what the items were, Ledford said. Trains were held up for approximately 15 minutes, but Ledford said debris left on the tracks between the Walnut Creek and Lafayette stations earlier in the morning contributed to delays.
More extensive and systemwide BART delays were reported later this morning as a result of a deformity reported on the trackway between the Civic Center and 16th Street Mission stations in San Francisco.
