Assistance League Diablo Valley’s Assault Survivor Kits Instill Hope

The Assault Survivor Kits outreach is one of several Community Needs Programs.

The power of “hands-on” transforms victims to survivors.
The power of “hands-on” transforms victims to survivors.

Initiated in 1994, Assault Survivor Kits® provides emergency clothing and hygiene kits to Community Violence Solutions, an outreach that supports survivors of assault. This year alone, two hands-on assembly sessions staffed by dedicated program volunteers, resulted in 180 survivor kits, 80 more than in the previous year.

Likewise, such publications as Life Reinvented and Girls Like Us, also provided by Assistance League Diablo Valley, are used in counseling sessions to empower clients to transition from victims to survivors. Co-Chairs Vera Braswell and Debbie Baker received feedback that Community Violence Solutions has had a positive impact on 245 hospitalized victims. The appreciative clients realize that there is an agency that cares about their needs.

As with all hands-on programs, Assistance League Diablo Valley Thrift Shop, located at 3521 Golden Gate Way, in Lafayette, is the primary funding source. Thank you! Your donations and purchases have a profound impact. To learn more, please visit assistanceleague.org/diablo-valley.
