As a result of Assistance League of Diablo Valley’s Program Research and Development Committee’s indefatigable efforts, Operation School Bell’s® Sunshine Boxes originated in 2019. This program now provides 500 shelf stable weekend meals per month to identified students in the Pittsburg School District. There are 75 dedicated program members serving on the Sunshine Boxes committee, while Assisteens help with box construction, which result in 10 deliveries each year.

On February 9, Sunshine Boxes received another grant of $4,200 from Drysdale Community Foundation, which was funded by donations from individual agents with Berkshire Hathaway Home Financial Services Drysdale Properties as an expression of their personal commitment to the communities in which they serve.”

As with all hands-on programs, Sunshine Boxes benefits from Assistance League of Diablo Valley’s Thrift Shop at the Way Side Inn, located at 3521 Golden Gate Way, in Lafayette. To learn more, please visit this website: assistanceleague.org/diablo-valley.
